Portal integration

The level of the navigation and administration level of ICContent® CMS is integrated completely into the SAP portal.

Portal integration
Users can easily gain access to the CMS environment via the role-based single Sign On (SSO). Because of the intuitive user interface of the ICContent® CMS, any editor is quickly able to manage content without special knowledge of the portal. Based on the deep integration of ICContent® CMS into the SAP portal, the editors are also able to edit the navigation structure at any location in the portal by means of the content management system. This does not involve resources of other departments resulting in a smooth editorial process.

Rolls and authorizations
ICContent® CMS automatically recognizes whether a user has the required rights to edit the page displayed in the portal. This is also subject to individual role profiles. With the proper authorization, the editor can publish the quality assured information directly in the portal. The search functions of the portal are retained and the whole content is subject to the SAP portal authorization concept. What’s more, personalization also allows editors to easily access the required functions. User authorizations are enabled in accordance with her/his role.

Web and browser based implementation
Every person involved with the CMS must have the same facilities to generate and use the content in the CMS. Because of the distribution of work centers and the variety of hardware systems, a web-based and browser-based solution is the best option to implement a system for an entire business or government agency and to minimize maintenance costs. Consequently the operation of the editorial and administrative components of ICContent® CMS are completely web-based. The browser interface ensures that clients are independent of the respective applications: All editorial and administrative functions may be performed without regard for the platform or the location. No software is required on a user’s computer, other than a standard Internet browser.

System components, open standards and architecture
Because ICContent® CMS is generally based on open standards it may be integrated into the portals existing security and network infrastructures without problems. ICContent® CMS grows easily as future requirements demand. The CMS was designed as a standard Java-based content management application for failsafe high-performance information systems supporting high access rates. This architecture supports flexible integration of new services, replacement of existing ones and the implementation of scaling and distribution models. The load distribution in the system is optimized by the separation of and the support for the parallel execution of individual services. This means: the best possible protection for investments and long-term economic viability for system providers.

The technical integration of ICContent® CMS into the SAP NetWeaver portal which is based on standards like XML, HTTP, WebDAV as well as LDAP provides a highly flexible system environment. Authorizations in the CMS are based on the central user directory and the respective group membership. The systems supports SAP logo-ticket and LDAP, so both systems can access a user directory to avoid the unnecessary duplication of the administration of user data.

Maintenance
The complete integration of ICContent® CMS into the SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web ACE) means that it can run on the same platform as the portal, thereby minimizing the TCO on a sustainable basis.

Since the interface components represent a certificated product standard, no initial expenditure is required for custom developments. This safeguards the customers’ investment and provides update security. Both - SAP NetWeaver Portal and ICContent® CMS – may be updated independently to newer versions. Maintenance tasks performed on one system do not affect the availability of the other system.
